Our Approach

  • An introduction from the founder

I’ve wanted to set up a really exceptional preschool since my eldest was born sixteen years ago. I wanted it to be a place where children could really be children – pond dipping, splashing in puddles, rolling in piles of autumn leaves, building imaginary worlds out of household objects, making mud pies in hand made dens – in short, enjoying the traditional, idyllic childhood. I also knew I wanted it to be a bilingual environment. At three, my daughter picked up Spanish effortlessly within months of our move to Spain – and the cognitive and emotional benefits of childhood bilingualism are widely documented – so it seemed a no brainer to me. Finally, I wanted the children to enjoy an excellent curriculum and benefit from the best available educational approaches (based on research) so that every single child would have the opportunity to fulfil his or her potential. My eldest was thirteen when I finally got my idea off the ground, in time for my two younger children to benefit (you can see videos of them showcasing their Spanish on our Videos page) in a large childminding setting. Three years later, with a hefty waiting list and lots of really happy families in two, I’m on to phase two – expanding into a purpose-built nursery which will be kitted out like a miniature role-play city!

      Lianne

      Founder and Managing Director

Until 2013 I was a company director in the City, but I’ve been planning to open a bilingual, musical, adventure-filled nursery ever since my eldest daughter was young and I realised that there were very few options for exceptional bilingual childcare. I developed my love of languages as a child visiting my grandparents’ home in La Cala, Spain. I went on to get a first class degree in Spanish with Portuguese from Queen Mary University of London, living and studying in Spain, Cuba and Brazil along the way. I’ve seen the benefits of childhood bilingualism in my daughter Ella, now a teenager, who went to a preschool in Spain for a year. I’ve completed courses covering assessment and planning, schemas, play-based learning, the early years foundation stage, safeguarding and welfare and am qualified in paediatric first aid. I have to say, though, I think my best training for this job (apart from being a mum of three) was having seven younger siblings!

      Room Leader - Pre-Escolar

Antonella joined us in September 2020 initially as bank staff but she made such a great impression with her playful nature and excellent cuddling skills that we quickly made her an offer and soon after promoted her to Room Leader in Pre-Escolares! Her undergraduate is in Sociology and she is also a flamenco and Spanish dance teacher. Antonella says “I love working with children. I am very grateful for the fact that I have the opportunity to share my days teaching children, even though they teach me more than I teach them! In addition, the fact of offering them a second language I think is something incredible, and the progress of the children is clear when they understand Spanish in such a short time: we create routines and different games and even if it is not their first or only language, they are able to understand perfectly. I love dance, reading books, giving hugs and making jokes – and I really enjoy raising the spirits of the people around me and helping them when they have a bad day and doing everything possible to make them happy. I’m a Flamenco and Spanish dance teacher and I’m studying courses in Early Years. I really like the challenge of support and preparing children to take the big step of starting school with certain skills and values. I think the key is knowing how to provide them with the tools they need to grow and improve day by day.”
